For PTA Board Members

Dear PTA leaders,

The Special Education Inclusion Committee (SEIC) is proud to be a part of the Wake PTA Council.  While we provide families with information and tools to support their child’s educational needs, we also offer support to PTAs so that their programs and events are inclusive of all children and their families.

WHO we are: Our volunteers and leaders are made up of parents throughout Wake County. Each of us has a child currently attended a WCPSS school who receives Special Education Services either in a separate setting or with support in matriculation.

WHY we exist: Our mission is to create a network of parents, educators, and administrators who will work cooperatively and constructively to meet the needs of all students receiving special education services in the most integrated environment, with appropriate supports in place, to ensure that the students will learn and be valued members of their school community.

WHAT WE offer:

IDEAS for including all students in your PTA events and programs.
RESOURCE links
SUPPORT to groups who wish to offer workshops on special education topics.

WHAT YOU can do:

  • PROVIDE a contact on your PTA who will be our communication link. Send to seicatwakeptadotorg  (seicatwakeptadotorg)   (We will send communication directly to you until we hear otherwise.)
  • SHARE information we offer in your newsletter and on your website.
  • LINK to our updated web address (www-seic.org) and Facebook page, if applicable (Wake-SEIC)
  • SHARE your successes and examples of “best practice” with us. We know there are wonderful things happening. We will happily highlight them on our website and in future newsletters.
  • HOST a workshop on a special education topic that is open to the WCPSS community.

A GREAT WAY TO START:  As you begin the new school you, you may consider hosting a Meet and Greet for Special Needs Families at your school. Ideas for this event can be found at: http://wake-seic.org/pta-inclusion-supports.  Upcoming communication from the SEIC will include ideas for Disability Awareness Month (October).

Thank you! We appreciate your time and the commitment you have made to support our schools and families.

Kind regards,

Kerry McCarthy Adams
